A delicate animal rescue operation took place yesterday afternoon in San Felice del Benaco, where a mute swan was freed from a large fishing lure that had trapped it. The alert came from a boater who was concerned about the limping bird struggling to make its way back to its nest among the reeds. Promptly notified, the WWF, Provincial Police, and Coast Guard activated a rescue team that quickly located the animal near its nest, where it was attempting to incubate five eggs despite the suffering caused by the hooks embedded in its wing.
After retrieving the swan from the water, the responders carried out an emergency procedure aboard the Coast Guard vessel, removing the hooks lodged in the bird’s wing and one of its legs. The operation was successfully concluded: after receiving the necessary care, the swan regained normal movement in its wings and legs and was returned to its natural habitat to once again watch over its eggs. The WWF encourages everyone to promptly report any animals in distress to ensure their protection and contribute to the preservation of local biodiversity.
