The situation regarding sustainable mobility around the Lake Garda is becoming increasingly critical, with vehicular traffic posing a constant challenge even outside holiday periods. The Gardesana, one of the main road arteries in the area, will undergo temporary changes with alternating one-way traffic, further complicating local mobility. In response to these issues, the Vice President of the Province of Brescia, Fabio Rolfi, announced a meeting between mayors and industry operators to address the challenges posed by the rising influx of tourists. Rolfi emphasized the importance of enhancing public transport as a strategy to alleviate traffic congestion.
The President of the Province, Emanuele Moraschini, highlighted the need to integrate sustainability into future mobility projects to improve the tourist appeal of the area. In 2024, public transport saw approximately 370,000 passengers thanks to initiatives such as the summer Shuttle Bus and the Chiamabus service in Sirmione; however, challenges such as a lack of financial resources and personnel hinder the expansion of services. Rolfi concluded by stressing the urgency of uniting the efforts of stakeholders to build an efficient and sustainable system that can significantly reduce vehicular traffic in the region.
