Andrea Bocelli to Headline 2001 Musica Riva Opera Concert

Andrea Bocelli certainly doesn’t need an introduction: in the world of Italian opera singing, he is probably second only to Pavarotti.

Indeed, it will be Andrea Bocelli closing the 2001 edition of Musica Riva on the evening of August 4th, with a concert that, in keeping with the Verdi year, will feature arias from the composer’s operas.

Mietta Sighele is naturally pleased, having managed to secure this evening with the tenor, leveraging her connections within the opera world, as he continues to enjoy worldwide success, one achievement after another.

Venue and program of the concert

Bocelli’s concert will be held in the upper hall of the Degasperi church, capable of seating over two thousand spectators (tickets will be available through advance sale at the counters of Casse Rurali, as is customary for the theater season).

The evening’s program has not yet been finalized in full detail. For now, the festival director prefers to wait: it is known only that there will be arias, preludes, and intermezzi from Il Trovatore, Aida, Don Giovanni, and I Vespri Siciliani.

However, the exceptional lineup of this edition of Musica Riva does not end with Bocelli: the opening concert will feature Renato Bruson performing Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder.

Other events and courses of the festival

Otherwise, Musica Riva confirms its tried-and-true formula: there are 14 advanced courses including singing, piano, harp (a first ever), violin and viola, cello, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, horn, trumpet, and trombone, plus a special conducting course led by Isaac Karabtchevsky, who also conducts the Musica Riva orchestra.

The festival will run from July 21st to August 4th. Riva will enjoy its usual extraordinary series of musical events: 14 concerts are scheduled, taking place at the San Giuseppe Auditorium, the courtyard of the Rocca, and Piazza Tre Novembre.
