Garda Scam Alert: Impersonators Offer Fake Police-Backed Magazine Subscriptions

They impersonate Carabinieri when calling hotel owners, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda regions, offering subscriptions to the army magazines.

These are not actual military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, regular police, fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

Recognizing the scams

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the true Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect to have been targeted by someone who,

if they have money, disappears and is no longer visible.
