On the occasion of Mother’s Day, the Natura Viva Park in Bussolengo is celebrating a special event with the hatching of its first barn owl chick, named Alba. The mother, already engaged in incubating other eggs, receives support from her partner as she dedicates herself to caring for the little one, protecting it day and night. This moment represents a glimmer of hope for the species, which is facing severe threats due to the use of rodenticides in Italian agricultural areas.
The park’s zoological director, Camillo Sandri, has confirmed that the chick is in good health and will be cared for by Alba during its first month of life. Meanwhile, the father takes on the responsibility of bringing prey to the nest to ensure proper nutrition for the chick. With a population decline of up to 80% in the last twenty years due to human impact, initiatives like the “Barn Owl Project” aim to recolonize local farmlands and preserve this valuable species.
