A luminous streak crossed the skies of Brescia on the evening of August 27, 2024, around 9:30 PM, capturing the attention of numerous citizens. Initially interpreted as a shooting star, the Monte Baldo Astronomical Observatory later clarified that it was a Starlight 2382 rocket in transit, confirming that the phenomenon was consistent with the re-entry of an artificial satellite into the atmosphere.
The event was recorded by the Observatory’s cameras and may be linked to a Delta2 rocket launched in 1992. However, the information provided suggests that the debris did not survive its impact with the Earth’s atmosphere. This celestial display has rekindled interest in astronomical phenomena, particularly following the recent celebrations of the Night of San Lorenzo.
