In the heart of Veneto, the Giacomo Matteotti House Museum in Fratta Polesine has undergone a complete renovation in honor of the centenary of the political historian’s death. With the financial support and initiative of the Cassa di Risparmio Foundation of Padua and Rovigo, the building has undergone a significant redesign, with investments exceeding 1 million euros.
The Foundation, in collaboration with the Municipality of Fratta Polesine and the Accademia dei Concordi of Rovigo, addressed the conservation issues of the House Museum, a National Monument. The main objective was to create a space that not only celebrates Matteotti’s memory but also stimulates deep reflection on democracy.
Gilberto Muraro, the president of the Cassa di Risparmio Foundation of Padua and Rovigo, emphasized how Matteotti represents not only a local but also a national heritage. He stated, “Politically and humanly, Giacomo Matteotti belongs to the whole of Italy, but he is especially a source of pride for Veneto and Fratta Polesine, where he lived and is buried.”
To commemorate the centenary of the socialist politician’s assassination, in addition to the exhibition redesign of the House Museum, an exhibition dedicated to his life and years in Polesine has been organized in Rovigo.
The renovation of the House Museum was entrusted to the architectural firm 120grammi, while the rethinking of the narrative path was curated by Luca Molinari Studio. The team led by Professor Luca Molinari worked under the historical supervision of Professor Giampaolo Romanato, president of the Scientific Committee of the House Museum.
Starting from June 8th, visitors will be able to explore a completely renovated House Museum. This new exhibition aims to offer a more engaging narrative of the events related to Matteotti. According to President Muraro, it is “the ideal place to reflect, starting from Matteotti’s example, on democracy, the past, and the present of our country.”
This initiative represents a significant step in the preservation of Italian historical memory and offers the public a unique opportunity to delve into fundamental themes such as democracy through direct experience in a space rich in history.
