Salò Faces Backlash Over Navigation Ordinance and Motor-Boat Restrictions
The Salò navigation ordinance and the debate over motorboating and water-sport restrictions return to the forefront ahead of June 19, the fifth anniversary of the night two youths were struck by a high-powered speedboat in the gulf. The tragedy prompted annual extraordinary measures by the local administration and a commemorative event is planned for June 19.
Resident Giulio Tonincelli formally criticized the ordinance, arguing it primarily targets human-powered water sports such as sailing, rowing, and stand-up paddleboarding while motorboats continue to operate undisturbed. He noted that his family sold the dinghy they owned for more than fifteen years after the incident and highlighted that strict motorboating restrictions have already been introduced by the Trentino shore, urging local rules to align with the real causes of the reported problems.
