Scam Alert: Fake Police Impersonators Target Garda Business Owners
They impersonate Carabinieri when calling hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, proposing subscriptions to magazines of the armed forces.
These are not military personnel but scam artists who, from time to time, claim to belong to financial police, regular police, fire brigades, or municipal police forces.
How to Recognize Scams
They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement.
Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,
when they have money, cease to appear.
