Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Garda Businesses into Paying

They impersonate Carabinieri when calling hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, police, firefighters, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or those that have nothing to do with the law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, after obtaining money, no longer makes an appearance.
