Shooting Plates on Lake Garda: A Legacy to Remove in Sirmione
Hundreds of clay shooting targets have been discovered on the bottom of the lake in front of Sirmione, drawing the attention of WWF Bergamo Brescia. The organization reported that an underwater robot, named Zeno, identified a veritable carpet of black discs, some of which were broken while others remained intact. These targets date back to the 1960s and 1970s, a time when a shooting range was active on the local beach; remnants of this activity were launched into the lake, and many ended up on the lakebed. In the coming days, divers from WWF will organize a collection to remove these fragments from the lake’s bottom. Although they are not considered particularly polluting materials, they still represent unwanted waste that compromises the natural beauty of the area. WWF emphasizes the importance of cleaning the lake not only as an ecological gesture but also to restore dignity to this precious ecosystem. Italian Version
