Avis Arcense Section Celebrates Community Service and Blood Donation Success

When solidarity is a tangible act and not an optional extra. Let’s talk about the commendable activity of the Arcense section of Avis, which has scheduled its annual meeting for Saturday evening at 8 PM at the Casino. It will be an opportunity for the organization’s president, Elio Proch, to highlight the importance of service to the community.

Avis Activities and Results

At the end of the event, members and supporters will participate in a gala ball in the banquet hall. Some data reflect the level of generosity among the local “Avisini”: over 232 liters of blood were donated last year by 550 active members. This amount is expected to increase in 2001 due to growing memberships within the association.

The local and provincial demand is largely met, to the extent that some of the blood is redirected to other regions. “Alongside the residents of Arcense, who constitute the majority, we also have members from Dro and Drena, as the section operates in those municipalities as well. Conversely, the number of members from Riva, Torbole, and Tenno is limited,” comments a proud Elio Proch.

It is only fitting to extend a heartfelt thank you to this group of people of all ages for their availability. Over the past twelve months, they have made a total of 582 donations (499 whole blood and 92 plasma donations), averaging more than one donation per person per year. That means many have undergone the blood draw more than once, with an average of 400 grams per donation.

Involvement and Goals

The president of Avis is in favor of recruiting new members to maintain the current level of donations. Last year, 62 individuals joined the Avis family, but another 50 had to be part of the “reserve,” having stopped donating due to health reasons or other causes.

The “honor roll” of the Arcense section, referring in military jargon to those who are out of service or discharged, numbers around one hundred. “This is an indicator consistent with overall trends and speaks volumes about our promotion efforts,” explains President Proch.

Our primary target is, of course, young people. Unfortunately, there are some generational issues, stemming from lifestyles that are not always disciplined, such as excesses with alcohol and parties—not only at the table. However, we should not generalize, because there are also those who behave responsibly.
