Brescia Launches Coregone Fishing and Restocking Program at Lake Garda
An important and much-anticipated piece of news for Brescia’s fishing enthusiasts: the official opening of coregone fishing, which was launched a few days ago. The coregone is a fish with prized meat that has been gaining great popularity among connoisseurs with refined palates in recent years, so much so that it is requested not only by private individuals but especially by restaurateurs, who have managed to make it appreciated by their customers through their craft. This was confirmed by Cisl of the professional fishermen of the Brescia shore, Marco Cavallaro.
Recovery and restocking
Earlier, under the strict supervision of the Brescia Province guards, eight fishing operations were carried out to recover eggs, now incubating at the fish hatchery in Peschiera, managed jointly by the Provinces of Brescia and Verona. “The incubation of the eggs – explains Cavallaro – will last approximately 40 days, after which the hatched coregone will be released into Lake Garda, as is done annually.
This restocking ensures the continuity of the species, serving as both a reputation boost and an economic driver, benefiting the tourism operators around the lake. e.d.
