Scammers Pose as Police to Target Garda Hoteliers and Shopkeepers

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

They are not soldiers, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, regular police, fire brigade, or municipal police.

How to Recognize Scams

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect being targeted by individuals who,

if they were after money, will no longer make themselves visible.
