Scammers Pose as Carabinieri to Trick Hoteliers and Shopkeepers
They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to military magazines.
They are not actual military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, police, fire brigade, or municipal police.
Recognizing Scams
They often suggest subscriptions to non-existent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with the law enforcement agencies.
Therefore, be vigilant and immediately alert the true Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,
if holding money, disappears without a trace.
