Garda Area Fraud: Fake Carabinieri Pose as Police for Scams

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to the force’s magazines.

These are not genuine military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, firefighters, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, remain vigilant and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they have money, disappear and are no longer visible.
