Desenzano and Rivoltella Oppose New High-Speed Rail Station; Spiller Criticizes Costs and Risks

In recent days, the Mayor of Desenzano released a press statement relaunching the Minister of Transport’s discussion of a possible new high-speed rail (TAV) station, calling it “a concrete opportunity for the territory.” The proposed site is described as lying between the Rivoltella outskirts and Torre di San Martino, where vineyards and farm buildings currently stand. The matter has been communicated to local media through official channels, with councilor Andrea Spiller (M5S and L’Altra Desenzano) weighing in with a response.

Spiller characterized the project as an “enormous and costly cathedral in the desert,” arguing it would lack urban integration and essential services, consume agricultural land, and spur further urbanization. He also warned of a potential relocation of Frecciarossa trains away from the historic line and noted that Desenzano and Peschiera stations could host high-speed trains. Spiller urged RFI and technical bodies to assess blocking the project, citing cost growth from about 60 million euros to more than 210 million, and the possibility of a station located roughly 30 km from the previous one.
