World Cup 2026 in North America: FIFA to Deploy AI and Referee Bodycams
World Cup 2026, to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico, will introduce several new technologies announced by FIFA, including artificial intelligence, referee-worn body cameras, and 3D offside technology, according to Pierluigi Collina, head of the refereeing commission. The chest-mounted bodycams will provide video angles usable for reviews and referee training during the tournament, having already been tested in recent competitions.
The tech package also includes 3D player avatars derived from scans, high-speed cameras, ball sensors and algorithms to track joints and positioning with precision; many footage used in reviews will be streamed in real time on stadium big screens. FIFA will provide AI-powered platforms for tactical analysis for coaches, staff and federations, while broadcasters and streaming platforms are investing to offer more interactive experiences for spectators.
