Antonio Scaino’s Treatise on the Ball Game Showcased at MuSa in Brescia

A Saturday, May 23 at 4:00 PM, MuSa will host a talk and exhibition centered on Antonio Scaino’s Trattato del giuoco della palla, a 16th-century text codifying early rules of tennis. The centerpiece is the first edition (Venice, 1555) from the Biblioteca di Storia delle Scienze “Carlo Viganò” of the Università Cattolica di Brescia. The volume, dedicated to the young Alfonso d’Este and written by the Salodian Antonio Scaino, comprises three sections and woodcut plates illustrating the rules and practice of the game.

The event, part of the MAGNIFICA PATRIA 1426–2026 program, will feature Pierangelo Goffi, head of the library at Università Cattolica di Brescia, and Stefano Grismondi, PhD in Exercise Sciences and community psychologist. The exhibition dossier will be open until June 28, 2026, and the connected immersive room reconstructing the Venetian Republic’s period runs until October 4, 2026.
