The tourism in the Brescia area of Lake Garda is experiencing a surge, with an average of 52,000 visitors per day in August, equivalent to 53 tourists for every 100 residents. Locations such as Limone have recorded record numbers, welcoming 624 tourists for each resident, followed by Moniga and Tignale with 174 and over 160 respectively. This massive influx is emblematic of the phenomenon of overtourism, which has led to evident overcrowding in many areas, especially on weekends and during holidays.
The data analyzed by the Confindustria Brescia Study Center highlights that tourist flows often exceed the number of local inhabitants, creating challenges in managing services and traffic. Sirmione, while not always ranking at the top for overnight stays, is significantly impacted by day tourism. The statistics clearly show how tourist pressure is affecting not only the local economy but also the real estate market, contributing to rising rental costs and a shortage of housing availability for residents.
