Limone del Garda, with a population of 1,170 residents, ranks at the top of the Italian list for average per capita earnings derived from tourism, according to a study by Sociometrica titled “The Wealth of Tourist Municipalities 2025 – Ranking of Value Added Creation.” Each resident benefits from an impressive amount of €241,000 generated by the tourism industry. Small municipalities like Limone del Garda demonstrate how a well-structured tourism offering can translate into significant economic returns, contributing not only to the local economy but also to the national one.
The province of Brescia boasts six municipalities among the top 209 positions nationwide, including Sirmione and Desenzano, with ten municipalities from the Lake Garda area present in the top hundred. This success is reflected in a growth of tourist arrivals of 48.3% from 2014 to 2024. Andrea Maggioni from Confesercenti del Garda emphasizes that tourism accounts for between 60% and 80% of the local economic impact in specialized destinations like Garda. However, this expansion brings significant challenges, necessitating investments in accommodation for seasonal workers and support for local small businesses.
