A 14-year-old windsurfer was rescued this morning, August 16, after being left adrift on his damaged windsurf board in Malcesine. Around 7 AM, the Operations Room of the Garda Lake Coast Guard received a report about a boy in distress, significantly far from the shore and at the mercy of the waves and strong winds. The rescue response was immediate, involving a vessel from the Coast Guard of Salò, the Bardolino Fire Brigade Unit, and the inflatable boat from the Volunteer Firefighters of Riva del Garda.
Thanks to a coordinated effort, the young athlete was located in less than 40 minutes. The windsurfer had broken his mast and lost his sail, being carried nearly a kilometer away from the shore. Once reached by the Coast Guard, he was hoisted aboard the vessel, where he received assistance and reassurance from the coast guards before being brought back to shore, where his father was waiting for him.
