Campione Hosts Rock-Face Rescue Drill to Retrieve BASE Jumper
A wall-rescue drill for base-jumper recovery was conducted in Campione in recent days, involving 12 rescuers from the V Delegazione Brescia of the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps (CNSAS). The team included nine technicians and three regional instructors. The exercise took place on a near-vertical wall about 350 meters long, at an elevation of around 400 meters, and aimed to test access and response times under technically demanding conditions.
Participants simulated the recovery of an athlete stranded on a sheer, overhanging wall by deploying an intricate rope and anchor system, rappelling from above, and guiding the rescue team to perform lowering and recovery maneuvers on the wall. The drill compared top-entry access with earlier bottom-entry approaches, and several anchors were left in place for potential future interventions.
